Antigua Sailing Week Late April/Early May Over the last two decades, Antigua Sailing Week has become one of the biggest events in the international sailing calendar, and it is oneofthemostfantastictimestovisitAntiguaandtakeadvantage of an island-wide party. Antigua Carnival Late July/Early August Dating back to 1834 and the abolition of slavery on the island, the Antigua Carnival is a celebration of music and dance held annually from the end of July to the first Tuesday in August. The most important day is that of the j'ouvert, in which brass and steel bands perform for much of the island's population. Independence Day 1st November Antigua gained total independence on November 1st 1981. T he Inn at English Harbour enjoys a delightful location on a wooded headland at the entrance of the historic English Harbour, one of the most picturesque corners of Antigua. Set amidst 19 acres of beautiful gardens overlooking the Caribbean Sea on Antigua's south-western coast, The Inn at English Harbour strikes the perfect balance between Colonial charm and modern comforts. Twenty four suites are located in the main part of the hotel and there are a further four suites in two cabanas directly on the beach. Each suite has a private balcony or veranda, and all have been elegantly decorated with dark mahogany floors, wooden furniture and crisp white linen. The casual Reef restaurant is open during the day for breakfast and lunch, while the Terrace restaurant in the original house boasts the perfect setting for an al fresco candlelit dinner. There is a large infinity pool, two tennis courts and a fitness centre at the inn and complimentary snorkelling and kayaking are also available. There is a small spa and historic Nelson’s Dockyard is just a couple of minutes boat ride away.
